Holding law firms accountable for unpaid jobs

http://www.usatoday.com/money/workplace/story/2012-03-07/summer-internships-paid-unpaid/53404886/1 As a recent law school graduate awaiting bar results seeking a paid legal position, this article strikes a core with me. In above article it stated that, "Lawyer Elizabeth Wagoner of Outten & Golden, which filed the two lawsuits, says such internships favor those who can afford to work for free." However, with loans that are due and the life necessities of rent and groceries, who can afford to work for free? Thoughts and comments are encouraged.
